The explosion of Internet communications has created a need for the Computer Network Operations (CNO) mission. This very important mission includes computer network defense and computer network exploitation. As a Computer Network Analyst on the offensive side you will: - analyze all-source data to evaluate foreign target opportunities - understand and evaluate foreign target network - develop strategies against those foreign target networks As a Computer Network Analyst on the defensive side you will: - identify cyber threats and anomalies by conducting research and analysis on data collected from numerous sources - identify vulnerabilities and their impact to customers - build and integrate defense response capabilities against these threats System Vulnerability Analysts identify vulnerabilities and attacks to the design and operation of a system (H/W, S/W, personnel, procedures, logistics. and physical security). They compare and contrast various system attack techniques and develop effective defensive mitigations. Additionally, System Vulnerability Analysts produce formal and informal reports, briefings, and perspectives of actual and potential attacks against the systems or missions being studied. They perform a broad spectrum of duties that may include: - critical infrastructure defense - control system security - wired and wireless network security - vulnerability analysis and research - scalable defensive mitigation development - perimeter/boundary defense - malware analysis - web and cloud security - mobile network security (LTE, Baseband) - tailored security solution and methodology automation - researching emerging network industry technologies and solutions NSA's development programs help employees enhance their skills and improve their understanding of a specific discipline. The programs are generally three years long and feature rotational tours throughout the Agency. Designed for entry to mid-level employees, development program participants are afforded the opportunity to receive tailored training, often with a cohort, and multiple assignments across Agency Directorates to develop skills and experience to ground their career at the NSA. Salary Range: $73,076 - $91,057 (Entry/Developmental) *The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Entry is with a Bachelor's degree and no experience. The following may also be considered for individuals with in-depth experience that is clearly related to the position: an Associate's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience; or at least 18 semester hours of military coursework/training in networking, computer science, or cyber topics plus 2 years of relevant experience. Degree must be in Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (e.g., General Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Forensics, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Information Assurance, Information Security, or Computer Security). Relevant experience must be in computer or information systems design/development, programming, information/cyber/network security, vulnerability analysis, penetration testing, computer forensics, information assurance, and/or systems engineering. Network and system administration may account for some, but not all, of the experience. Completion or military training in a relevant area such as JCAC (Joint Cyber Analysis course). Undergraduate Cyber Training (UCT), Network Warfare Bridge Course (NWBC)/Intermediate Network Warfare Training (INWT), Cyber Defense Operations will be considered towards the relevant experience requirement (i.e,. 20-24 weeks course will count as 6 months of experience, 10-14 weeks will count as 3 months of experience). Salary Range: $84,529 - $113,362 (Full Performance) *The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree and no experience. The following may also be considered for individuals with in-depth experience that is clearly related to the position: an Associate's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience; or at least 18 semester hours of military coursework/training in networking, computer science, or cyber topics plus 5 years of relevant experience. Degree must be in Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Technology or related field (e.g., General Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Forensics, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Information Assurance, or Computer Security). The ideal candidate is someone with solid decision making skills, ability to react quickly, ability to work in teams, strong problem-solving, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, and has knowledge or experience in several of the following areas: - Network analysis and network operating systems - Operating system administration (Windows and Unix/Linux) - Network Security - Computer and network forensics - Network administration - Vulnerability detection and malware analysis - Low level protocol and packet analysis - Scripting and/or programming - Defending against and/or mitigating system vulnerabilities, including at the infrastructure, host and enterprise levels - Intrusion detection and incident response - Software reverse engineering - Fuzzing - Virtualization - Penetration testing - Ports, protocol, and services analysis - Network security devices (e.g., firewalls. intrusion and detection systems) - Malicious code analysis - SCADA and Control Systems Devices
