Description of Position We are seeking entry-level and experienced safety professionals to support our team as a Safety Specialist. The successful candidate will be joining a globally dispersed team of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) professionals who manage programs that are recognized as models in the intelligence community. The position includes a variety of responsibilities that traditionally relate to safety and industrial hygiene including: - Performing surveys to anticipate, recognize, control and eliminate hazards in a variety of work environments (e.g.: laboratory, industrial, and office areas). - Preparing written technical reports with recommendations for corrective actions. - Developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and occupational health programs. - Conducting incident investigations and/or develop strategies to minimize accidents. - Conducting audits, inspections, and assessments then formulate appropriate recommendations for improvement. - Conducting indoor air quality, ergonomic, lighting surveys, and food safety inspections. - Conducting respiratory mask fit tests. - Performing personal monitoring for hazard exposure including collecting samples of dust, asbestos, lead, gases, vapors, and other materials for analysis. - Developing and delivering education and training solutions via multiple platforms. - Coordinating with partners (i.e.: building management, medical, fire protection, environmental, and engineering professionals) to resolve issues that impact the health and well-being of the workforce. This position is responsible for anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, controlling, and eliminating hazards; preparing written technical reports with recommendations for corrective actions; evaluating management systems in accordance with international auditing protocols; delivering education and training solutions via multiple platforms; conducting accident investigations; and coordinating with building management, medical, industrial hygiene, fire protection, environmental, and engineering professionals to resolve issues that impact the health and well-being of the workforce. Additional duties include interpreting safety and health codes, standards, and regulations; conducting design reviews for new construction, building renovations, and new equipment/system procurements; maintaining technical proficiency to provide up-to-date guidance on regulatory standards and industry best practices; and possible contract maintenance. Candidates must be willing to travel (generally less than 10%), both domestically and internationally.

The Office of Occupational Health & Well-Being (OWMB), formerly known as the NSA Medical Center, supports the mission by applying professional knowledge in Occupational Health, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene and Safety operating in accordance with all governing body regulations. As such, the incumbent serves as an Agency expert on safety and occupational health matter. The successful candidate will be joining a globally dispersed team of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) professionals who manage programs that are recognized as models in the intelligence community.

The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. ENTRY PERFORMANCE Entry is with an Associate's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree and no experience. Degree must be in a safety-related field (e.g., occupational safety and health, safety management, safety science, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, etc.), however a degree in any field is acceptable if the applicant holds any of the following credentials: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), Occupational Hygiene & Safety technician (OHST), or Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST). Relevant experience must be in a safety-related field (e.g., occupational safety and health, safety management, safety science, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, etc.). Certification from Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) is desirable. FULL PERFORMANCE LEVEL Entry is with an Associate's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience. Relevant experience must be in a safety-related field (e.g., occupational safety and health, safety management, safety science, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, etc.). Certification from Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) or American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) is desirable. SENIOR PERFORMANCE Entry is with an Associate's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree plus 4 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience must be in a safety-related field (e.g., occupational safety and health, safety management, safety science, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, etc.). Certification from Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) or American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) is required, and certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) must be obtained within 24 months of employment.

We are seeking entry-level and experienced safety professionals to support our team as a Safety Specialist. The ideal candidate is someone with a desire for continuous learning and strong problem-solving, communication (both oral and written), and interpersonal skills who is: - Able to work effectively across several different functional areas in a collaborative environment - Well-organized and able to handle multiple assignments - Willing to take the initiative - Willing to be innovative to achieve success Must demonstrate application of scientific principles and techniques to identify and evaluate exposures risks. Must demonstrate effective people skills, specifically the ability to understand and moderate responses in a way that builds trust and respect with diverse customer sets. Additional skills required include experience in fall protection and tower climbing, proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, proficient speaking and writing skills, and the ability to quickly integrate and excel in a team setting. This position requires lifting (not to exceed 50 pounds), climbing of ladders, and some outside survey work.

Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. This work role is for Maryland. Salary Range: $50,643 - $164,102 (Entry - Senior Level Experience) On-the-job training, internal courses, and external training will be made available based on the need and experience of the selectee. Work Schedule: The work schedule is Monday - Friday (Flexible).
